Hello friends,
I'm currently in the weeds of interviewing and on top of that, trying to sort out some family matters. Therefore, I apologize for the lack of uploads. For this video, I thought it would refreshing to switch things up and do a quick Q&A. It's a bit chatty, but I hope you like it!
xx,

I can relate to this to some level. My home state is NY, but after realizing the burnout and poor body and health from running around for years, I decided to take a risk and relocate overseas for a change while keeping the same remote position. It’s been one year, but my body and mental health has improved so much and burnout is officially gone. I considered the change as part of growth and taking a step back, yet many people thought I was crazy to leave. Eventually I will come back to my home state, but for now I am enjoying vacations to NYC and the states and valuing NYC more than when I actually lived there. I’m also in my late 20s. And as I say, best time to take risks are in your 30s. You will definitely land a new position soon since time is on your side 😊

Should have quite quit instead. Either way, these tech companies are not worth your time, they will drop you as soon as you are disposable! Suggest using your skills to work for a smaller company. It will be infinitely better and more rewarding as you’ll be a big fish in a small pond, making a difference in their organisation!

This whole job search and actually landing a position sometimes feel like a random walk through a maze that you have no idea how close or far away from the end. But keep persisting. Years ago, I was senior management in a company seeking a candidate for a software / controls engineer position. One person went through interviews with key staff members, as well as with myself and the general manager. Everyone like the candidate and he seemed to be a good choice. I got the green light from the staff who interviewed him as well as the general manager, my boss. Somehow, something seemed off. I decided to do background checks. I called up the school where he said he got his degree and the registrar advised he didn't graduate and only took a few classes. Then I called up his previous employer and was advised by the HR manager that they are looking for him as he took a company laptop and they wanted their computer back! Needless to say, I told the general manager that this candidate was a no go! This goes to show even the top management in a company, the GM, who actually did not have a technical degree nor any software experience, often make hiring decisions based on the personality of the candidate! You can imagine what a clown show that would have turned into had this person got hired on!!!

Your mental health is important ❤ it’s too stressful there is valid good on you for doing what’s best for you

For living anywhere in America you are doing exceptionally well. You paid attention to your parents and to anyone in school who taught you how to budget. Has someone whose dad is a native I always avoided moving there because of the fear of the cost but honestly if you can find an apartment for around $2,500 a month and you can manage to make close to 80k a year then it's not that crazy to live there. You can make that money as a welder and live in the city. Best someone who lives in california, not in a fancy part, those prices are comparable to here but you have all the added benefit of the city and all that it offers

There is a difference between a J O B and a career. You seemed as if you had a career at Spotify. I would have kept it and made sure that every four months you took a seven day vacation and traveled the world. That mini vacation would have reset you each and every time re-energizing your next four month work period. When you come back from one vacation, you are already planning the next keeping your mind fixed where it should be! LIVING and enjoying life, not just being a workaholic. Good luck, I wish you well.

I recently quit my job, which was a dream at one point and the whole reason of every step I took during my educational and professional journey. The decision was definitely emotionally overwhelming and it scared me for months. But now I am over it and very mindful of where I go next. In fact, in the meantime, I launched a business and embarked on a content creation journey. Unfortunately, my runway for expenses didn't leave much, so I had to take another job. But, altogether, I feel like these are the right steps for my long-term goals and life. As I watching you sharing your experience, I just want to say you are brave and not alone. We deserve better, whatever that means in our terms :))

I just want to say that this video series of yours have made me feel somewhat better about my current situation. I've also willingly left a job back in February due to the toll it has taken on my mental and physical health. I was and still am struggling to accept the fact that I am doing this to prioritize my own wellbeing. I became a recluse and withdrawn as I face rejections after rejections, and feeling shame and embarrassed to face my peers/friends because they are "well off" career-wise. The job market has been tough - and will probably be tough for a while, and some days it gets so hard to deal with the anxiety of the unknown future. Watching you go through this with a very positive attitude is inspiring. And the happiness and carefree vibes are really showing. I hope I'll get there too. Hang in there, you'll land something so rewarding, this journey will be worth it. <3 Thank you again.

Have you thought about looking for mid-level roles instead of senior roles? I think usually companies are looking for someone with a lot of experience with different companies for senior levels. If you get accepted for a mid-level you can rise up to be a senior inside the company. Goodluck Julia! All the best in your search.
